Oprah Winfrey Versus Chelsea Clinton

Obama can’t beat Hillary Clinton on merit alone, so he brought in tactical air support for his campaign from Oprah Winfrey. At one point in a rally, he asked his audience if they wanted Oprah Winfrey for vice president, and I don’t think he was kidding.
Not to be outdone, Hillary Clinton sought to deflect some of the media focus Oprah would bring to the Obama campaign by having some family members, other than Bill Clinton, show up in Iowa. These were her mother, joined by daughter Chelsea.
Neither Oprah Winfrey nor Chelsea Clinton are gurus on national security, global economics or public policy. But that doesn’t matter, it’s the name that counts. Both are celebrities, and the fact that Clinton’s and Obama’s celebrities are what makes the news, and not the vital issues at stake, tells us how inert and devoid of intellectual substance is this thing called the presidential campaign process.
