Hillary Clinton Dumps Celine Dion

1 comment December 4th, 2007

The Clinton political machine has changed its tune, literally. Last summer, with much fanfare, Hillary Clinton ran a contest to select her official campaign song. The hype became a major Hillary campaign event, including Hillary and Bill Clinton appearing in a YouTube video mimicking the Sopranos, as they await the results of the song contest. The winner of the Hillary songfest, we were all told, was “You and I,” sung by Celine Dion.

Now we are told by ABC News that Hillaryland has dropped this supposed winner as its official campaign song. The Clinton campaign would not answer ABC’s questions regarding the reason for using a different song, as the Iowa caucus race enters the home stretch.

What is the significance of this switch? If Hillary Clinton can be expedient in substituting a campaign song, ignoring the results of her own pick-a-song contest, how can the American people expect her to hold to any principles on more lofty matters as their president? Well, there is one principle Hillary Clinton is consistent on. She will say anything, change anything, and sing any song if it gets her the maximum political power that she has craved for so long.

Heaven help the American people if Hillary Clinton is elected the nation’s 44th president, because in that eventuality, we will all be singing the blues.

Hillary Clinton And Iran

1 comment December 4th, 2007

Hillary Clinton has consistently exploited the Iran question as political fodder, rather than being engaged as the serious national security and diplomatic matter that it is. The way Hillary Clinton seems to deal with the Iran question is to have her staffers determine the direction of the political wind, than issue statements that would seem to satisfy the polling data. What is absent is serious knowledge and a will to remove the thorn of American-Iranian hostility that has so poorly served the interests of both countries.

The recent national intelligence estimate on Iranian nuclear weapons intentions should, like all previous NIE estimates on a host of matters, be treated with a grain of salt. What is still left is that Iran, by its own admission, is engaged in a high-priority project to develop the means to produce enriched uranium on an industrial scale. This can be used for either fueling a nuclear power reactor or building a nuclear bomb. Iran’s first nuclear power reactor may go online in the next year, with no others under construction. The skepticism about Iran’s ultimate intentions will persist, though Hillary Clinton has already claimed that the latest NIE means everything is changed with respect to Iran.

Iran and America both have their share of megalomaniac politicians, which has poisoned relations between the two countries. I don’t see where Hillary Clinton would be an advantage in improving relations between the two countries. For eight years, President Bill Clinton and co-president Hillary Clinton ignored Iran as a priority for America’s security, even when the Iranian people elected a moderate president who sought to improve mutual relations. The Clintons clearly saw no political benefit to spending time on Iran back then. Perhaps now Hillary Clinton thinks acting alternatively hard and soft on Iran will get her more votes.

For those who recognize that resolving the nearly thirty years of cold war with Iran is a national priority, Hillary Clinton would offer no advancement over the dismal record of the first Clinton presidency.

Hillary Clinton Bombs Obama

1 comment December 4th, 2007

The gloves are really off, with thirty days to go before the Iowa caucus. Hillary Clinton is blasting Barack Obama with all the shrill artillery at her disposal. According to Senator Clinton, Obama is inexperienced, unqualified, lazy on showing up to vote on important issues, and just all around not worthy of being president. Hillary Clinton posed this rhetorical question at a recent campaign appearance: “How did running for president become a qualification for being president?”

Hillary Rodham Clinton may very well be right about Obama’s lack of presidential qualifications. But what about her own? She has skillfully built up a list that can purport that she is qualified for national leadership, but when the light of truth is shining, her own resume is threadbare. Here are some examples.

America faces a major economic meltdown. Where are her qualifications for managing mega-economic policy? They are nowhere, because they don’t exist. America faces critical national security issues. Where is her strategic competence? The only answer she can give is that she serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, where she voted in favor of the disastrous Iraq war.

As the mutual hostility thickens, all that Hillary Clinton and Obama can argue over is who is the most unqualified presidential candidate.
