Hillary Clinton’s Qualifications For President-A Joke!

3 comments August 6th, 2007

The NBC Sunday news show, “Meet The Press,” featured an interesting discussion yesterday on the attributes that presidents should have. What was interesting about the discussion wasn’t how substantive it was, for it contained very little of that precious commodity. Rather, it illustrated the disconnect between the media and America’s political reality. They even seriously raised the importance of “relaxation” as a prime qualification for holding presidential office. One of the participants in the discussion had the intellectual honesty to say that the American public was way ahead of the media in evaluating the nation’s political troubles. That must be why polls indicate that the front-runner candidate for president, Hillary Clinton, still arouses deep mistrust from the American people.

The discussion the media should be having is what the board of a for-profit or non-profit corporation would be having if it involved hiring a chief executive at a time of great upheavel. They would first ask what the key challenges and opportunities were facing the organization. From that process, they would indentify the core qualifications they would need in their new CEO. What would follow would be a rigorous and competitive interview process, to find the best possible candidate to fill the requirements of the organization. If only presidential elections were conducted this way.

If they were, these would probably be the chief job requirments: Unquestioned record of honesty and integrity. Proven track record in making correct, long-tern strategic decisions (e.g. Iraq invasion). Deep knowledge of foreign affairs, macro and micro economics and managing budgets of large, complex enterprises. If this were the criteria, Hillary Rodham Clinton would fail on every mark.

Hillary Clinton’s vote in favor of Bush’s Iraq project was her single most important decision as a senator, and she clearly failed in making the correct strategic evaluation. Her record reflects no serious mastery of economics, or budgeting experience. Take away speeches written by her staff, and her own authentic words on foreign affairs reflect no knowledge beyond the superficial. In short, if this presidential race were a serious corporate CEO hiring exercise, Hillary Clinton would be laughed off the list of serious candidates. Her lack of presidential qualifications is discussed in great length in my book, “Hillary Clinton Nude.”

The only way Hillary Clinton can even feint being qualified is by pointing to the record of George W. Bush. However, the Bush epoch is further proof of how flawed our presidential selection process is, and Hillary Clinton is certainly not the solution to the problem. Unfortunately, many American voters will be more impressed by Hillary Clinton’s acting debut in her Sopranos YouTube video than unimpressed with her mediocre and mendacious decision making that contributed to the Iraq quagmire.
