Hillary Clinton Has 33% Lead Over Barack Obama

The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll indicates that 53 percent of Democrats in the latest survey support Hillary Clinton’s nomination as their Party’s presidential candidate. This reflects an increase of 12 points from the previous month. These results compare with 20 percent for Senator Barack Obama, a decrease of seven points from last month, and a mere 13 percent for John Edwards.

So much for Obama’s vaunted challenge to Hillary Clinton’s front-runner status. Ditto for the so-called media political experts. What clearly is occurring is that the Clinton political machine’s grand design on the White House is unfolding according to plan. It is almost as though all the events on the campaign trail have migrated straight out of central casting.

At this point, the only hope for Obama and, to a lesser extent, Edwards, is pulling a win out of the Iowa caucus. In fact, even if Hillary loses in Iowa, this will only briefly delay the inevitable. The front-loading of the 2008 presidential primaries ensures that Hillary Clinton will cement her lock on the nomination by early February. However, Hillaryland will now go all-out to clean up in Iowa. They have reorganized their campaign structure in that state, and are clearly going for a convincing win. Should Hillary win in Iowa, the Democratic nominating process will, in essence, be concluded from that moment.

Why does Hilary Clinton want to rap up the nomination fast as lightning? The answer has to do with the Republicans. With no clear choice in sight for the GOP, Hillary will likely have many months to campaign for the general election and build her national infrastructure, while the Republicans are gripped in a panicky selection process for their presidential standard bearer.
